Tips for Choosing a Speech Topic
When choosing an informative speech topic, it helps to ask yourself the following questions.
- Which informative speech topic will interest my audience the most?
- Do I know more about this topic than my audience?
- How will my audience benefit from learning more about this topic?
- Which speech topic do I know most about?
- Would I have fun making a speech about this topic?
- Am I especially enthusiastic about this topic?
- Is this topic appropriate for the situation and the venue?
- What information about the topic doesn't the audience know already?
- Can I limit this topic sufficiently so my speech fits in the time frame I'm expected to fill--and no
more?
These questions are not listed in any particular order of importance. You can answer each individually, then
make a decision about your speech topic based on your answers overall.
